PT Organics Limited recalled select Pumpkin Tree Peter Rabbit Organics Banana & Strawberry 4-ounce fruit pouches on July 21, 2026, after discovering that an internal packaging defect may have introduced soft, food-grade plastic strands into the product. The voluntary recall affects pouches sold exclusively at Kroger, Meijer, and Target stores nationwide between March 6 and July 13, 2026.
The issue originated with PT Organics’ packaging supplier, which recalled a production run of defective pouches last week. PT Organics’ own inspections of finished products made with the recalled packaging confirmed the presence of a strand of soft, food-grade plastic attached to the inside of a small number of pouches, according to the FDA announcement.
The recalled pouches can be identified by barcode 8 15367 01078 0, lane number 4 printed on the rear right-hand side seam, and best-before dates of 01/19/2027, 01/20/2027, 03/17/2027, 03/18/2027, 05/14/2027, or 05/15/2027. The plastic strand can come out of the pouch when squeezed, posing a potential choking hazard to young children.
No injuries have been reported in connection with the recall. PT Organics Limited encourages consumers and caregivers to check their products against the identifying codes and dispose of or return any recalled pouches to the place of purchase. The company advises that recalled product should not be eaten or fed to another person.
Comparable Precedent and Food Safety Context
Fruit pouch recalls are not unprecedented. In November 2023, the FDA and CDC investigated an outbreak linked to WanaBana apple cinnamon fruit puree pouches that contained elevated lead and chromium levels in the cinnamon ingredient. That recall expanded to include Schnucks-brand and Weis-brand cinnamon applesauce pouches. According to the CDC, FDA testing found that one cinnamon applesauce product sample contained 200 times more lead than the FDA allows in food.
The current plastic contamination issue differs from the 2023 lead outbreak in origin and hazard type, but reflects ongoing quality control challenges in the fruit pouch category.
