Alphabet’s Q2 2026 earnings beat analyst expectations, with revenue climbing 24% to $119.8 billion, powered by a surge in Google Cloud revenue that accelerated to 82% growth. The company reported net income of $112.1 billion, as demand for AI infrastructure and enterprise AI solutions drove expansion across its cloud division.
Google Cloud brought in $24.8 billion in Q2, up from $20 billion in the prior quarter, continuing a sharp acceleration from the 63% growth rate in Q1. CEO Sundar Pichai attributed the momentum to strong demand for AI infrastructure and solutions, noting that the company’s cloud backlog expanded to $514 billion.
The cloud division’s expansion reflects the broader AI race among tech giants. Alphabet has committed up to $190 billion in capital expenditures for 2026, largely to support data center buildouts needed for AI computing. In June, the company announced an $85 billion equity raise to help finance this infrastructure investment.
Despite the earnings beat, Alphabet’s free cash flow turned negative in Q2, reaching negative $5.9 billion as capital expenditures hit $44.9 billion. The WSJ reported that the company’s free cash flow turned negative as it continued to spend heavily on data centers for artificial-intelligence computing. This marks a sharp reversal from prior years and reflects the intensity of the AI infrastructure buildout across the industry.
Enterprise adoption of Alphabet’s AI tools accelerated during the quarter. Nearly 90% of the Fortune 100 are now using Gemini Enterprise, the company’s AI platform designed to help businesses build custom agents and automate processes. Cloud customers expanded usage significantly, with nearly 500 Cloud customers each processing more than 1 trillion tokens over the last year.
Search and YouTube also contributed to the quarter’s growth. Search and Other revenue grew 17% year-over-year, while YouTube Ads grew 13%. The company reported that AI features in Search, including AI Overviews and AI Mode, have surpassed 1 billion monthly active users since expanding globally last October.
Google stock was roughly flat in after-hours trading following the earnings announcement. The company also announced new models including Gemini 3.6 Flash and Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite, described as cost-effective alternatives to larger models, and noted that its model APIs are processing approximately 22 billion tokens per minute, up from 16 billion in the prior quarter.
