Aircraft lessor AerCap Holdings is in discussions to purchase up to 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft at the Farnborough International Airshow, according to Bloomberg, potentially marking another significant wide-body order for the Dublin-based company.
The talks involve as many as 15 of the widebody jets, according to people familiar with the matter, though the negotiations remain ongoing and no agreement has been finalized. The discussions come as the airshow runs through July 24 in Hampshire, United Kingdom, and represent part of a broader slate of leasing-company deals expected at the event.
AerCap, the world’s largest aircraft leasing company, has built a dominant position in the Boeing 787 Dreamliner market. According to Aerospace Global News, AerCap is the world’s largest lessor of the Airbus A320neo family and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner family aircraft, with over 90% of its fleet on lease to airlines.
The leasing market for wide-body aircraft has strengthened considerably in 2026. According to SMBC Aviation Capital, the rental market is in a strong environment, with widebodies increasing in demand. The global aircraft leasing market is projected to grow from USD 210.57 billion in 2026 to USD 377.90 billion by 2034, according to Fortune Business Insights, driven by rising airline demand for fuel-efficient modern aircraft.
This is not AerCap’s first major 787 order at Farnborough. In 2022, the company announced an order for five additional 787-9 Dreamliners at the same airshow, bringing its total orders for the aircraft to 125 at that time, according to AerCap’s press release. The 2022 deal demonstrated AerCap’s consistent appetite for the 787 as a core component of its leasing portfolio.
The current talks underscore ongoing confidence in the Boeing 787 Dreamliner as airlines and lessors seek to replace aging wide-body fleets with more efficient aircraft. However, Bloomberg cautioned that the talks are confidential, the deal is not final, and negotiations could conclude without an agreement.
