Porter McConnell deactivates X account amid health concerns over father Mitch McConnell

Porter McConnell, the 48-year-old daughter of former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, has deactivated her X account as questions intensify over her father’s health following his hospitalization on June 14.

Porter had maintained an active presence on X, where she frequently criticized her father’s conservative politics and the Republican Party. The account’s disappearance comes as McConnell remains hospitalized with minimal public disclosure about his condition.

McConnell was found unconscious at his Washington, D.C., home on June 14 and received CPR from emergency responders, according to EMS dispatch audio obtained by The Daily Beast. His office did not provide an update on his condition until June 22, stating only that he would not be voting that week. He has not voted in the Senate since June 11.

Porter is one of three daughters McConnell had with his first wife, Sherrill Redmon, whom he was married to from 1968 to 1980. Before her account deactivation, Porter worked as the campaign director for Take on Wall Street, a left-leaning advocacy coalition focused on Wall Street regulation.

McConnell’s office has provided few details about his hospitalization or current condition. Senate Majority Leader John Thune said on June 15 that he had not spoken with McConnell but asserted that the senator was “clearly dialed into what’s going on” in the Senate. The senator’s wife, Elaine Chao, traveled to Beijing and met with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng just days after his hospitalization.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, a Democrat, has said McConnell’s office has not communicated with him about the senator’s condition. McConnell’s final months in office have been marked by health challenges, including a February 2026 hospitalization for flu-like symptoms, during which he spent eight days receiving care and missed several crucial Senate votes.

McConnell, 84, announced earlier that he would not seek reelection after his term ends in 2027. The Senate is out of session until July 13.
