Massie blasts GOP for failing to repeal Obamacare, calls it ‘Trumpcare’

Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., criticized the GOP on Wednesday for failing to repeal Obamacare despite controlling Congress and the White House, suggesting the law could now be called “Trumpcare” since Republicans have made no serious effort to dismantle it.

“Might as well call it Trumpcare now. Our party has made no serious effort to repeal Obamacare and legalize affordable health insurance after taking control of the House, Senate & White House,” Massie wrote on X (formerly Twitter), according to Fox News. “Why? Because the current system enriches insurance and hospital companies.”

Massie’s criticism reflects a long-standing tension within the Republican Party over healthcare policy. When pressed on what could be done without votes, Massie replied that President Trump has “endorsed literally every Republican who wants to keep Obamacare,” according to Fox News.

The Kentucky Republican has a history of opposing GOP healthcare bills he views as insufficient. In December 2025, Massie was the only Republican to vote against a House GOP health care package, calling it a “placebo” that keeps core Obamacare rules intact despite being marketed as market-based reform. The bill passed 216-211 but did not extend the enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies set to expire, according to multiple sources.

Massie lost his primary race in May 2026 to Trump-backed challenger Ed Gallrein, a former Navy SEAL, after the former president publicly opposed his reelection. Despite his electoral loss, Massie has signaled he will remain active in political commentary and policy debates.
