VIZ Media will release a paperback edition of Satoru Iwata’s ‘Ask Iwata: Words of Wisdom from Satoru Iwata, Nintendo’s Legendary CEO’ on August 11, 2026, bringing the beloved collection back to print in a more affordable format. The book, originally published in hardcover on April 13, 2021, compiles interviews and wisdom from Nintendo’s former president and CEO.
The paperback version will be priced at $14.99, making it accessible to a wider audience than the original $22.99 hardcover edition. The 176-page collection was edited by Hobonichi and translated by Sam Bett, drawing from the “Iwata Asks” interview series that Iwata conducted with key creators behind Nintendo games and hardware.
Satoru Iwata served as Nintendo’s fourth president and CEO from 2002 until his death in 2015. Under his leadership, Nintendo developed the Nintendo DS and Wii consoles, which achieved massive financial success and expanded gaming’s appeal across demographics. Iwata became known for his “blue ocean” business strategy, which focused on creating new market spaces rather than competing in existing ones.
The book addresses diverse subjects including leadership principles, game development philosophy, and innovation. Iwata’s approach to management gained widespread respect, particularly after the Wii U’s poor performance when he cut his own salary by 50% rather than laying off employees, absorbing financial hardship to protect his team.
