Dell stock surges 7% after Trump urges Americans to ‘buy a Dell’

Dell stock surged more than 7% on Monday after President Donald Trump publicly urged Americans to “go out and buy a Dell computer” during a White House event marking the launch of Trump Accounts, a new federal investment program for children.

Speaking at the first-ever opening bell ceremony held in the Oval Office, Trump praised Dell Technologies and its founder Michael Dell, along with his wife Susan, who have pledged more than $6 billion to the Trump Accounts initiative, which launched July 4.

“Michael and Susan Dell, they are truly incredible,” Trump said, according to CNBC. “We’re going to get him that money back one way or the other — and then I’ll ask for another $6 billion.” The stock climbed as high as $429.74 during intraday trading before settling at a 3.4% gain to close at $407.89, according to Barron’s.

This wasn’t Trump’s first public endorsement of Dell. In February 2026, Trump made similar remarks praising the company, and in May, he again highlighted Dell when thanking the Dells for their contributions to the Trump Accounts program. According to financial disclosures, Trump purchased between $1 million and $5.1 million in Dell stock during the first quarter of 2026, according to Barron’s and CNBC reporting.

Trump Accounts are tax-advantaged investment vehicles for U.S. children born between 2025 and 2028. The Treasury Department seeded each eligible account with $1,000, and companies and executives have pledged billions in matching contributions. The Dells’ donation was among the largest corporate pledges to the initiative, according to CNBC.

Dell stock has climbed substantially in 2026, up 224% year-to-date as of the Monday trading session, though it remains down 14% from its June 1 record high of $465.96, according to Dow Jones Market Data cited by Barron’s. The surge reflects broader gains in the technology sector, particularly in companies benefiting from artificial intelligence server demand and government contracts.
