Social Security payments arrive July 8 for early-month birthdays

Social Security payments arrive on July 8 for recipients whose birthdays fall between the 1st and 10th of the month, according to the Social Security Administration’s 2026 payment calendar.

Most Social Security beneficiaries who started receiving benefits after May 1997 receive payments on a staggered schedule tied to their birth dates. For those born in the first 10 days of any month, the payment arrives on the second Wednesday of that month, making July 8 the payment date for July’s early-month recipients.

The Social Security Administration staggers payments across three Wednesdays each month to spread out the administrative workload. Recipients born between the 11th and 20th receive their payment on the third Wednesday (July 15 for July), while those born between the 21st and 31st are paid on the fourth Wednesday (July 22 for July), according to USA Today.

A separate group of beneficiaries follows a different schedule: those who began receiving Social Security before May 1997 are paid on the 3rd of each month. In July, that payment date is July 2. Additionally, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients, a program also administered by the Social Security Administration, typically receive payments on the first business day of the month—July 1 in this case.

The check arriving in July technically covers benefits for June, while July’s actual benefits are covered by the check that arrives in August, according to the SSA. Beneficiaries can verify their specific payment date by checking the Social Security Administration’s online payment calendar or by logging into their personal payment schedule on the SSA website.
