Bill Clinton discussed his memoir “Citizen: My Life After the White House” with actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson at the Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock on July 4, 2026, as part of a special edition of the Kumpuris Distinguished Lecture series.
The event brought together the 42nd president and the Emmy-nominated actor for a conversation centered on Clinton’s post-presidential years and the major events that shaped the early 21st century. Ferguson, known for his role on the television series “Modern Family” and as host of the podcast “Dinners On Me,” moderated the discussion.
Clinton’s memoir, released November 19, 2024, chronicles his life after leaving office in 2001 at age 54. According to the book’s description, Clinton wanted to make meaningful use of his skills and relationships with world leaders to contribute to the world. The memoir covers significant events including the September 11 terrorist attacks, the Great Recession, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the January 6 insurrection, along with Clinton’s decades of philanthropic and advocacy work.
The conversation took place as the Clinton Presidential Center celebrated America250, the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The center marked the occasion with free museum admission and family-friendly activities throughout the day, including performances, games, and patriotic crafts.
Clinton and Ferguson had previously discussed the memoir on December 6, 2024, at the Clinton Presidential Center as part of the 20th anniversary celebration of the institution. That earlier event, titled “A Conversation with President Bill Clinton and Jesse Tyler Ferguson,” introduced readers to the book’s themes and Clinton’s reflections on his post-White House journey.
