Amazon Prime members can save 50 cents per gallon on gas during the July 4 travel weekend, with the discount running from July 2 through July 5 at more than 7,500 participating stations nationwide.
The offer applies to BP, Amoco, AMPM, and Thorntons locations across the country. Prime members need to link their Amazon account to a free Earnify account and activate the promotion to redeem the discount at the pump, according to USA Today.
The savings come as record travel is expected this holiday week. AAA projects 72.2 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home for Independence Day, with about 61.4 million driving, according to a June 17 AAA forecast.
Gas prices heading into the holiday are the second-highest on record for July 4. The national average stands at $3.83 per gallon, down nearly 50 cents from a month ago but still significantly higher than last year’s $3.10 average, according to AAA data cited by Fast Company.
The discount is limited to one fuel purchase per account, with a maximum of 20 gallons eligible for the savings, USA Today reported. For a typical 15-gallon fill-up, Prime members could save around $7.50 on fuel costs during the weekend promotion.
Before July 2, Prime members save 10 cents per gallon. The July 4 promotion marks a significant increase and is exclusive to the holiday weekend, according to USA Today’s reporting on the Amazon offer.
