Fox News contributor Clay Travis predicts Kamala Harris will be the 2028 Democratic nominee, citing her continued strength in primary polling and support among Black voters who he says will prove decisive in the party’s presidential race.
Travis made the prediction during a recent appearance on ‘The Story’ with Martha MacCallum, where he discussed Harris’s recent outreach to progressive groups as she signals a potential 2028 presidential campaign. “She’s going to be the nominee,” Travis said, adding, “Prepare for it.”
Travis’s reasoning centers on Harris’s polling position. In social media commentary, he noted that Harris remains “leading in all of the polls out there of Democrat contenders,” a claim supported by recent polling data. According to USA Today, Harris is indeed leading in 2028 primary polling, though the outlet cautioned that nominating her again would be a grave mistake for the Democratic Party. The Center Square similarly reported in June 2026 that Harris remains “the Democratic frontrunner for 2028.”
The former vice president’s strength with Black voters appears central to Travis’s forecast. In a separate prediction, Travis emphasized that Black women voters will be crucial to Harris’s path to the nomination. “Black women are gonna show up, and they are voting for Kamala. And she’s gonna be the nominee,” he stated. Axios reported that while many Democratic powerbrokers oppose another Harris candidacy, “lots of Democrats — particularly Black voters crucial in a primary — think she’s an icon.”
Harris has not officially announced a 2028 campaign, but her recent activities suggest serious consideration. Fox News reported that Harris has been reaching out to progressive groups, including pro-Palestinian organizations, as she navigates internal party divisions. The New York Times noted in April 2026 that Harris signaled she was “thinking about” running for president, with Democratic candidates making overtures to Black voters at party conventions.
The 2028 Democratic primary remains fluid. While Harris leads many polls, other candidates including California Governor Gavin Newsom and others have also been mentioned as potential contenders. Prediction markets show varying odds, with some showing Newsom leading in certain regions, though Harris maintains strong national standing in most surveys.
