Carville predicts Trump will leave office by Easter 2027

Democratic strategist James Carville predicted Sunday that President Trump will leave office by Easter 2027, citing boredom and a coming midterm defeat that he said will feel “breathtaking” to the president.

Speaking on his “Politics War Room” podcast with co-host Al Hunt, Carville said Trump “has no earthly idea of what’s coming” following the November midterm elections. “The vote against him in November is going to be, like, breathtaking,” Carville told Hunt. “And he’s already bored. He can’t stay awake. He says he’s bored with the Iran war. I’m telling you, this guy, by Easter of 2027, is just going to walk away from his job.”

Carville characterized Trump as unwilling to endure the political fallout he expects after the midterms. “He’s obviously not well, he sleeps all the time, slobbers all over himself or whatever,” the former Clinton campaign strategist said. Carville said Trump will abandon office in response to a “massive rejection of him, anybody that has anything to do with him.”

This is not Carville’s first prediction of Trump’s early exit. Since March 2026, Carville has repeatedly warned that Trump will resign after the midterms, when Democrats are expected to launch investigations. In March, Carville predicted Trump would seek a pardon from Vice President JD Vance before stepping down. Recent polling shows Democrats maintaining an edge in the fight for Congress control ahead of November’s midterms.

The White House responded sharply to Carville’s prediction. Spokesperson Davis Ingle called Carville “a stone-cold loser who suffers from a severe and incurable disease known as Trump Derangement Syndrome, and it has rotted his peanut-sized brain.”

Trump and Republicans face headwinds in the midterm environment, as voters have expressed disapproval over the administration’s handling of affordability and the cost of living. Prices had surged following the start of the U.S.-Israeli conflict against Iran earlier this year, though they have dipped since the U.S. and Iran signed an initial agreement in June to end the conflict. Some Democratic candidates have already called for Trump’s impeachment if their party gains control of Congress.
