Annie Andrews wins endorsements from two former South Carolina governors

Two former South Carolina governors — Republican David Beasley and Democrat Jim Hodges — announced on Oct. 26 that they are endorsing Annie Andrews for the U.S. Senate, a joint backing the campaigns released in a short video, the WYFF report says.

The endorsements were posted to Andrews’ social media and aired in Greenville, where Beasley and Hodges said they don’t agree on everything but called Andrews the candidate best positioned to “put South Carolina first,” WYFF reported.

The Post and Courier adds that the video was posted Oct. 26 and that Beasley’s support is notable because he has publicly distanced himself from the modern Republican Party, writing recently that “this is not the party that I knew,” the paper reported.

Post and Courier also reports the endorsements arrive in the closing week of the campaign as outside groups have sharply increased spending on both sides of the contest, with multiple PACs filing new independent-expenditure reports in mid- and late October.

Andrews has been running a statewide “South Carolina First” tour with rallies in St. Helena Island, Greenville, York County and Columbia, the Post and Courier says, while Republican nominee Darline Graham has drawn high-profile backers including former President Donald Trump and state leaders.

The two former governors framed their joint statement as bipartisan, saying the state “deserves more than the same political fighting,” WYFF reported, and urging voters to consider Andrews as a unifying option.

What this means politically remains a question the campaigns will try to answer in the final days before the election: the endorsements offer in-state credibility and a rare bipartisan signal, while outside spending and national attention continue to shape the closing narrative, according to reporting in both outlets.
