At a campaign event in Youngstown, Ohio, President Donald Trump joked that he had “examined” Sen. Jon Husted’s body, a moment that has generated talk among Ohio Republicans and gone viral online.
Video and accounts of the rally show Trump describing inspecting Husted “up and down” and saying he had “looked at his ass,” a line that attendees and online viewers quickly circulated, according to reporting by CNN.
News coverage captured the reaction inside GOP circles: CNN reported that Ohio Republicans were buzzing about the remark and that some sought to avoid commenting directly, saying they “will not comment on his anatomy.”
Separately, a widely read summary of the event noted Trump praised Husted as a former college football player and said he heard about Husted’s athletic background from former coach Jon Gruden; that account said the clip immediately spread across social platforms, drawing jokes and criticism online (Yahoo News).
The moment comes as Husted, a Republican senator from Ohio, runs a competitive race this fall; reporting from Yahoo noted Husted is facing a close contest with former Sen. Sherrod Brown, and observers say moments like this could shape voter attention.
Political context in Ohio may amplify the clip: recent polling and coverage show tight margins in statewide races and lower national approval for President Trump, factors commentators say can make viral rally moments especially consequential for down-ballot contests. For background on the Ohio matchup, see internal polling coverage showing Sherrod Brown leading Husted by six points in the state.
In this article we do not attempt to interpret voters’ private reactions; rather, reporting shows the comment itself became a topic of conversation among Republicans in Ohio and online communities in the days after the rally.
