PPI report: BLS scheduled to release August data Sept. 10 at 8:30 a.m. ET

The Bureau of Labor Statistics says the PPI report for August 2026 is scheduled for release on Sept. 10, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. ET, the agency’s release calendar shows.

The BLS’s Producer Price Index program page states “The Producer Price Index for August 2026 is scheduled to be released on September 10, 2026, at 8:30 A.M. Eastern Time.” The PPI measures “the average change over time in the selling prices received by domestic producers for their output,” the BLS adds.

Economists and traders often watch the ppi report for early signs of inflation pressures before they show up in consumer prices. Reuters notes investors are “pore[ing] over inflation data” this week as markets consider the Federal Reserve’s next steps.

Some forecasters have given a concrete near-term expectation: market commentary cited by RSM US says economists expect a roughly 0.4% month-over-month increase in both headline PPI and CPI for August, a figure traders will parse against Fed policy bets.

Because the ppi report is a wholesale-level inflation gauge, it can signal pipeline price pressures that may filter into consumer inflation measures later. The BLS describes PPI as a family of indexes that captures price change from the seller’s perspective rather than the consumer’s.

Why markets watch the PPI

Market coverage and research highlight that stronger-than-expected PPI readings can boost expectations for higher interest rates, while softer readings can ease those odds. Reuters reported this week that data releases are central to investor discussion ahead of the Fed’s Sept. 15–16 meeting.

Traders and economists will compare the published PPI tables and the BLS technical notes to forecasts. The BLS provides detailed PPI tables and databases for commodities, industries, and stages of processing that analysts use to break down what drove any monthly change.
