Sony revealed the April 8, 2027 release date for Final Fantasy VII Revelation during a PlayStation State of Play broadcast earlier today, ending months of speculation about when the trilogy’s finale would arrive. The game will launch simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Epic Games Store, marking the first time a mainline entry in the Remake series reaches beyond PlayStation as an exclusive.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is the third and final chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake Series, which began in 2020 and continued with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. During today’s showcase, Square Enix unveiled substantial new gameplay footage highlighting several major features, including the return of the iconic Highwind airship for overworld exploration and the chocobo companion Piko, who now serves as both a mount and a combat ally that grows stronger alongside the party.
The most significant gameplay addition is the Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear, or FITS System, which allows players to customize combat styles through specialized uniforms with unique move sets. Four FITS are available—Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner—each dramatically altering party members’ abilities and visual appearance during battle. The announcement also confirmed a new dynamic character-switching feature that lets players instantly swap between party members while exploring the world, along with a grappling gun for navigating urban environments.
The fan-favorite Queen’s Blood minigame returns with expanded mechanics and a new storyline centered on Red XIII. Pre-orders for all platforms went live immediately after the announcement, with a special pre-order bonus of the Mecha-Chocobo & Moogle Summon Materia available across all editions. Square Enix also revealed two premium digital editions: the Premium Edition includes early access (24 hours before launch) and a Story Expansion Pass granting two story-focused DLC packs, while the Premium Plus Edition adds a digital art book, digital soundtrack, and additional in-game items.
For collectors, physical editions are available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch 2, with a special day-one physical edition including a Magic: The Gathering—Final Fantasy Final Showdown promo card while stocks last. The Square Enix Store offers an exclusive Collector’s Edition with a statue of Zack, Cloud, and Sephiroth, along with digital bonus items.
The State of Play event, which aired in two back-to-back broadcasts featuring updates from studios worldwide, positioned Final Fantasy VII Revelation as the showcase’s centerpiece.
