Harrison Township voters in Macomb County approved a police, fire and general operations millage renewal on August 4, with 67.2% voting yes and 32.8% voting no, according to unofficial results with 100% of precincts reporting. The renewal at 9.0831 mills will fund public safety operations through 2030 and is expected to raise nearly $12 million in the first year.
The millage renewal will continue to support police services, fire department vehicles, apparatus, equipment, housing and personnel, as well as emergency medical and ambulance services. As a renewal rather than a new tax, the millage maintains existing funding levels for these services in the township, which is located in the northern part of Macomb County.

The approval came as part of Michigan’s August primary election, when voters across the state considered numerous local and state proposals. In neighboring Macomb County communities, millage outcomes were mixed: voters in Chesterfield Township rejected a parks and recreation millage, while Oakland County voters rejected a school millage in a close election. In Washington Township, also in Macomb County, voters approved both a police protection millage and an ambulance services renewal, each generating just over $4.3 million in the first year.
Police and fire millage renewals have become routine on Michigan ballots as communities seek to maintain public safety staffing and equipment. According to results from across the state in early August 2026, public safety millages showed varying degrees of voter support, with some communities seeing strong approval and others facing rejection.

The Harrison Township millage will be levied beginning in December 2026 and continue through 2029. The township’s approval reflects voter confidence in maintaining current service levels as the community balances public safety needs with tax considerations.
