Sherwin-Williams unveiled its 2027 Colormix Trend Forecast, a collection called Rewild, featuring 48 handpicked hues curated by the paint brand’s Trendsight Team to shape home interiors in the year ahead. The palette spans moody oxbloods and mossy greens to chalky whites, sun-baked clays, and rich jewel tones, all designed to be mixed, layered, and interpreted freely rather than following preset combinations.
The 48 colors are organized into three distinct design stories—Revive, Reignite, and Reconnect—each reflecting a different emotional direction and design philosophy. Revive celebrates heritage and craftsmanship, drawing on history and artisan-made furnishings in rooms that accumulate character over time. Emily Kantz, an interior designer and color strategist on the Sherwin-Williams Colormix Trendsight Team, explained that this direction resonates particularly with younger homeowners seeking design “that has a story to it, that has a history to it, that has a presence,” as a counterbalance to the constant digital updates of modern life.
Reignite takes a bolder approach, embracing expressive colors, tactile contrast, and what the team calls “constructive chaos”—rooms that mix unexpected colors and finishes in an intentional way. Rather than treating color as a finishing touch, this story positions it as the emotional engine of a room. Kantz noted that “people are really leaning into color” and want something that shows their personality and authentic self. Interior designer Kathy Kuo, founder and CEO of Kathy Kuo Home, observed that “color has transitioned from accent to true identity,” with clients seeking greater tonal depth in deep greens, oxblood reds, and warm bronze after years of playing it safe for resale appeal.
Reconnect reads the palette through an elemental lens, focusing on mineral and earth-derived tones including Eminent Bronze, Universal Khaki, and Perfect Greige. These are not pale, noncommittal nature neutrals but shades with grit, depth, and a weathered quality—more soil, stone, lichen, and woodsmoke than generic beige. Kantz highlighted Eminent Bronze as a color she’s “seeing everywhere, just popping up in doses,” noting its mossy-green quality.
The forecast stems from research across Sherwin-Williams’ industrial wood, coatings, and residential design divisions. Contributors track trends across furniture, flooring, automotive, and aerospace finishes, with some team members looking five to 10 years ahead. When the Trendsight Team convenes, they compare colors and cultural shifts tracked across disciplines and regions, looking for ideas that recur across multiple markets. Of the 48 hues, 10 are designated as “Continuity Colors”—shades the brand sees as having particular longevity across rooms, styles, and applications. These include Cordovan (a rich wine red), Clove (a charcoal-brown), Roycroft Bronze Green, and Forged Steel (a blue-leaning charcoal), among others.
Kuo emphasized that the shift toward personal, layered color choices doesn’t require every room to share one matching scheme. “Let each room have its own emotional register,” she said, “moodier in a library, brighter in a kitchen, quieter in a bedroom, as long as there’s a thread connecting them.” Sherwin-Williams will select its 2027 Color of the Year from the Rewild collection later in the year. All 48 hues are available at Sherwin-Williams stores nationwide and online, with sample options including peel-and-stick sheets, Color To Go paint samples, and free color chips for designers, homeowners, and professionals.
