SpaceX is set to launch a classified National Reconnaissance Office satellite on a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station early Thursday, July 30, marking the NRO’s fourth national security mission of 2026.
The NROL-95 mission is scheduled for liftoff at 3:09 a.m. ET from Space Launch Complex 40, with a 44-minute launch window opening at 2:37 a.m. EDT. According to the NRO’s official launch page, the Falcon 9 will deploy the classified payload into orbit from the Florida facility.

Following deployment, the Falcon 9’s first-stage booster will attempt a recovery landing at Landing Zone 2 south of the launch pad. This booster recovery will produce a sonic boom audible across central Florida, as the rocket descends through the atmosphere at supersonic speeds—a phenomenon that has become routine with SpaceX’s reusable rocket program.
The NROL-95 mission is part of the National Reconnaissance Office’s Proliferated Architecture program, a constellation of numerous smaller, cost-effective satellites deployed across multiple orbital planes. This approach represents a shift from the agency’s traditional reliance on large, expensive satellites. According to an NRO statement from April 2026, the proliferated architecture captured more than 400,000 collections in 2025 alone, demonstrating the effectiveness of the multi-satellite strategy for intelligence gathering.

SpaceX has become the primary launch provider for the NRO’s national security missions. The NROL-105 mission in January 2026 was the first of approximately a dozen NRO launches scheduled throughout the year, consisting of both proliferated architecture and other national security payloads. The company’s Falcon 9 rocket has proven reliable for these sensitive government missions, with the reusable first stage reducing launch costs and enabling more frequent deployments.
The NRO, a U.S. intelligence agency that operates spy satellites, has expanded its launch cadence significantly under the Proliferated Architecture initiative. NROL-172, launched in May 2026, was the second proliferated launch of the year, followed by NROL-179 in June. Each mission adds to the growing constellation that provides near-real-time intelligence capabilities to U.S. military and intelligence communities.
