Rep. Cory Mills, a Florida Republican serving on the House Armed Services and Intelligence committees, is under active criminal investigation by the Department of Justice, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The DOJ investigation comes as Mills faces mounting legal and ethical scrutiny from multiple fronts. The House Ethics Committee has been investigating him since November 2025 over allegations of sexual misconduct and dating violence, while a separate criminal probe escalates the legal pressure on the congressman.
Mills faces allegations stemming from a February 2025 domestic abuse incident and a separate case from July 2025 in which he allegedly threatened to release explicit images of a romantic partner, according to Fox News. He has denied any wrongdoing and has not been charged with any crimes.
The House Ethics Committee authorized nearly two dozen subpoenas and collected thousands of documents as part of its investigation, according to a May 2026 statement. The panel described the allegations as “serious” and said it was “devoting significant resources” to the probe, though it has not specified a timeline for completion.
In April 2026, Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., filed a motion to expel Mills from the House, accusing him of misrepresenting his military service, sexual misconduct, campaign finance violations, and improper involvement in federal contracts. Mills has resisted calls to resign despite the mounting allegations.
One notable allegation involved Lindsey Langston, the reigning Miss United States, who obtained a protective order against Mills in October 2025 after he allegedly threatened to release sexually explicit images and harassed her, according to The New York Times. Mills was first elected to Congress in 2022 and was re-elected in 2024; he is currently seeking a third term this November.
