Ike Barinholtz makes Kimmel debut with Mindy Project reunion

Ike Barinholtz is making his first appearance as a guest host of Jimmy Kimmel Live, turning the occasion into a mini Mindy Project reunion on his debut night this week.

Barinholtz will host the late-night show from July 13-16, with Mindy Kaling and Fortune Feimster both booked for Monday’s premiere episode, bringing three members of the former Fox and Hulu comedy together nearly nine years after its series finale.

Barinholtz appeared in all six seasons of The Mindy Project as Morgan Tookers, the show’s irreverent, comedic office manager. Feimster joined the series in its fourth season as Colette Kimball-Kinney, a nurse practitioner. Kaling created, executive produced, and starred in the show, which ran for 117 episodes from 2012 to 2017.

Despite the show’s staying power as a streaming comfort watch—particularly after its move from Fox to Hulu in 2015—The Mindy Project has not received a formal reunion special or cast-led rewatch podcast. Monday’s episode offers a lower-key version: three former cast members sharing a late-night stage.

Barinholtz has appeared on Kimmel’s show frequently as a guest, but this marks his first time taking the host’s chair. He and Kaling have worked together since their Mindy Project days, collaborating on the 2019 film Late Night, which she wrote and starred in.

Barinholtz is among six guest hosts filling in during Jimmy Kimmel’s summer break. The show is expected to return to its regular hosting schedule after Labor Day.
