Gas stations in Philadelphia area now selling fuel at $3.47

Freedom Fuel Network gas stations in the Philadelphia area are now selling fuel at $3.47 per gallon, marking the opening of the first location in a White House-backed initiative to offer drivers discounted gasoline across the greater Philadelphia region.

The first Freedom Fuel station opened in Philadelphia, offering gas about 50 cents below Pennsylvania’s statewide average of roughly $3.96 per gallon, according to Fox Business. The network spans 25 locations across Pennsylvania and New Jersey, with most stations concentrated in the Philadelphia area.

The White House announced the launch as part of President Trump’s push for lower energy costs. “The FIRST Freedom Fuel Network gas station has LANDED in Philadelphia, lowering the price at the pump to $3.47 for our 47th President,” the White House stated in a post on X. The initiative comes as the national average gas price hovered around $3.84 to $3.86 per gallon in early July 2026, down from peaks above $4 earlier in the year.

The Freedom Fuel Network is a privately owned company that operates all 25 locations without federal subsidies or government support, a White House spokesperson confirmed to CBS News. The stations achieve their lower prices by accepting smaller profit margins rather than through external funding. The company has branded the stations with American flag decals to align with the administration’s messaging on energy costs.

Pennsylvania has consistently seen gas prices above the national average throughout 2026, partly due to the state’s gas tax of nearly 58 cents per gallon, one of the highest in the nation, according to PennLive. In early July, the Philadelphia area average was $4.45 per gallon for premium fuel and $3.96 for regular, compared to the national average of $3.79 to $3.84, making the $3.47 Freedom Fuel price a significant discount for local drivers.

The rollout follows Trump’s broader calls for gas retailers to immediately lower prices at the pump. Trump had urged retailers to target prices closer to $2.50 per gallon, arguing that crude oil prices had fallen sufficiently to support deeper cuts. He also accused some companies of price gouging and warned that the federal government could investigate if prices remained elevated.
