Kosovo Government to grant a concession on Prishtina Airport

Prishtinë, 28 Feb, 2007 - The Government of Kosovo gave today the green light to the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Transportation for starting the procedures on granting a concession on the Prishtina Airport.

With this initiative the Government intends to help improving the quality of services at the Prishtina Airport by applying a public-private-partnership model. A main objective is to make the Airport into a main regional centre of air transportation.

The board member of the Kosovo Trust Agency, Ahmet Shala, told Telegrafi.com that the KTA is supporting this proposal and added that such step was until now impossible since the KTA did not have a full sovereignty over publicly owned enterprises.

Airport Prishtina is one of the largest in the region with over one million passengers per year. The airport connects Kosovo via direct flights to London, Vienna, Istanbul, Budapest, Zurich, Tirana, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart, Hannover, Copenhagen, Stockholm and Gothenburg.
